Tattoos

If you are interested in booking a tattoo, please message your preferred artist directly. Each artist controls their own schedule, and has a different rate for pricing. Our artists require a deposit upfront to book all appointments; the deposit will come off of the overall cost of the tattoo. All deposits are non-refundable, and can be taken in-shop or by phone during business hours.

Before Your Tattoo Appointment…

All clients must provide government issued ID.

In accordance with Illinois State Law, Oak and Ember Tattoo artists cannot tattoo any persons under 18, not even with parental consent.

It is wise to eat a good meal at least 4-6 hours prior to your appointment. Passing out is not uncommon, but it is often caused by a sudden drop in blood sugar. Eating before you come in will help minimize the likelihood.

Our artists do not provide numbing cream, so if you feel you must use it, please make sure to get it beforehand and read the instructions very carefully.

It is not recommended to take pain killers before your tattoo, as they can thin the blood and thus effect the tattooing process.

If you are taking bloodthinners, please consult your doctor prior to scheduling.

If you have scheduled a longer session, please be sure to get a good night’s rest prior. You are welcome to bring a clean blanket and snacks/water for your own comfort.

Please do not bring small children to your appointment, especially if there is not another adult accompanying to supervise them.

Hand/Feet tattoos are particularly prone to fading quicker than other areas. If you are considering a hand or foot tattoo, keep in mind that it is highly likely that they will require more touch-ups than other tattoos might.

Aftercare for Your New Tattoo…

  • Temporary bandages can be removed 10-15 minutes after application. Just make sure to clean the tattoo after you remove the bandage.

  • Derm Shield/second-skin bandages should be left on a for at least 24 hours, and can stay on for up to 7 days. When removing them, make sure to gently peel it off under running water, and clean your tattoo as mentioned here. If you notice any signs of allergic reaction to the adhesive, be sure to remove it right away.

  • Only use unscented, anti-bacterial soaps on fresh/healing tattoos. Products with fragrances and dyes can result in an allergic reaction, and can potentially ruin your tattoo. It is recommended to clean new tattoos 2-3 times daily.

  • Let your tattoo dry-heal for at least 24 hours before applying any ointments. We recommend a very light layer of either A+D ointment or Aquaphor, as needed, after the dry-heal. Make sure not to suffocate the tattoo.

  • Be sure not to pick at any scabs that may form; scabbing is more common with full color tattoos, but can occur with any fresh tattoo as well. Doing so can cause scarring and pull pigment from the tattoo.

  • Avoid soaking your new tattoos or letting shower water hit them directly. This can result in softening of scabs which can cause a poor heal and can also be quite painful on a fresh tattoo.

  • Be careful not to expose your tattoo to direct sunlight for extended periods of time, and avoid tanning for at least 30 days. Even after your tattoo is healed, SPF skin protectant is highly recommended for longevity of your tattoo.
