Need to Know…

In accordance with Illinois State Law, Oak and Ember Tattoo artists cannot tattoo any persons under 18, not even with parental consent.

If you have oily skin, your results will appear softer (eyebrows can look solid) in appearance and may require additional procedures to achieve your desired look.

If you have a darker skin tone, please note that your permanent makeup will not appear as bold as lighter skin types. Permanent eyeliner will not appear as defined or as dark as it may on lighter skin tones due to the skin being naturally darker.

You should plan on scheduling your touch-up within the first 6 months.

For eyebrow services, you may come to your appointment with your eyebrows penciled the way you like them, and you may bring your eyebrow pencil with you.

If you use an eyelash growth serum (Latisse, etc.) or a similar product, you must discontinue use for 2 weeks prior to your permanent cosmetics appointment, and you cannot begin using it again until 3 weeks after the procedure.

If you get cold sores or have ever had one in the past, you will need an antiviral prescription from your doctor before a lip procedure. Physicians usually instruct to take it 2 days before. As this procedure will bring out the virus if not medicated beforehand.

Aftercare…

  • Be careful as you pull on shirts or other garments over your face so as not to accidentally brush your new tattoo(s).

  • For Lips, it may be challenging for a while to eat, but it can be done. Avoid biting or licking your lips as much as possible, and make sure no food or drink stays on there. Spicy foods and alcohol are not recommended for fresh lip tattoos.

  • Be sure to completely avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for a minimum of 4 weeks after your procedure. Direct sunlight can cause the pigment to change color while it is healing and can also cause hyper-pigmentation and/or scarring.

  • Try to avoid sweating for a full 10 days.

  • Avoid pools, saunas, steam rooms, steamy hot showers and/or steamy hot baths for 3 weeks.

  • It is recommended to wash your face with makeup wipes, so no water drips on your fresh tattoos. It is wise to avoid washing hair in shower, as brows might get wet. You can use dry shampoo, get a wash at a salon, or lay back in your bath to wash your hair so eyebrows do not get wet for the first 10 days.

  • Avoid sleeping on your face/brows for the first 10 days.

  • NO makeup or skincare products should be used on the treated area(s) for at least 2 weeks. Doing so may cause an infection or otherwise damage the tattoo.

  • NO facials, chemical treatments, and microdermabrasion for at least 4 weeks.

  • Eyebrow tinting should not be undertaken for 2 weeks after your procedure.

  • After 10 days, once the area has healed sufficiently, it is recommended to use SPF skin protectant when going out in the sun to stop the color from fading.

  • Avoid Retin-A, Chemical Peels and Microderms around the brow area once healed. Skincare and makeup products containing “Acid,” Retin A,” and/or “glycol” should be avoided. (These ingredients are commonly in products that have “long-lasting” as a feature.)

  • Day 1-2: The eyebrows are approximately 20 to 25% darker and bolder in width than they will be when healed. Your skin is red under the pigment, which causes the color of the pigment to appear darker. There is some swelling, although difficult to see due to the thickness of the skin in the eyebrow area. This will subside. Don’t be concerned that your eyebrows initially appear darker and heavier in size than you desire. This is all part of the process.

Day 3: Eyebrows will start to itch and will appear a bit thicker in texture. As natural exfoliation begins, do not exfoliate yourself. Exfoliation will cause the excess pigment surrounding the eyebrow procedure to flake away and a more narrow appearance will result.

Day 4: The skin begins to flake, peeling from the outside edges first. New skin will heal over the pigmented area and result in a softer appearance of your eyebrows.

Day 5: Color finishes flaking off and appears softer and greyer for 8 weeks until color clarifies. Avoid using any skincare products that have "acid," "Retin A," or "glycol" in them.

  • Day 1-2: Eyes will be swollen as if you have been crying, with a heavier eye makeup look.

Day 3: Swelling decreases with a tight feeling. The pigments begin to lift away from the skin.

Day 4: There is a “pinching” feeling. Some itching is normal as the skin begins to flake. Do not pick at it.

Day 5: Blinking movements of the eye usually removes all pigment by this day. Color is somewhat grayish and will take a few more days to clarify to full color.

NO EYELASH EXTENSIONS (Must be removed min of 3-5 days prior to procedure)

NO LATISSE/Lash growing serum (Discontinue for min of 3 weeks)

Keep fingers away from your eyes. The bacteria on the fingers and hands may cause "pink eye" which is a bacterial eye infection.

Only use the recommended moisturizer after the procedure for 10 days, or as needed. Using too much may irritate your eyes. Eyeliner will typically have some residual pigment that may peel or flake off after a couple days. Eyeliner tends to fade a bit quicker than brows due to the moisture in the eye area. After the touch up the color stays better and lasts longer. Eyeliner generally takes 2-3 procedures.

  • Day 1-2: Lips will be swollen, tender, and have a heavy lipstick look with a reddish brick color. You may experience a slight metallic flavor.

Day 3: Less swelling, thicker texture, sore, hot feeling before exfoliation with an orange color affect.

Day 4-5: Exfoliation begins, very chapped lips.

Day 6: A soft rich color begins to appear.

Days 7-13: Lip color disappears and the “frosty” chapping stage begins as a whitish/grayish haze on the lips.

Day 14: Color blooms from within more and more each day until day 21.

Day 21: Healing is complete; the color you see is the color you have. Your lips will remain a bit dry for a month or two, use a good lip balm and they will return to normal, but with full color.

Lips can take 1-3 treatments for desired depth of color. Keeping lips moist daily will lengthen the time the pigment will last, and everyone heals different.
