What are tooth gems?

A tooth gem is a semi-permanent, non invasive procedure that entails placing jewelry on your tooth/teeth.

Age

You must be at least 18 years old to get tooth gems, or under 18 with parental consent.

Aftercare

You should avoid eating or drinking anything other than water for the first two hours after application. You should also avoid hard foods or candies for the first 12 hours, and alcohol for the first 12 hours. While the bond is curing, it is best to keep your pH level at a less acidic state. Do not brush your teeth for 12 hours after gem application. Do not smoke or vape for the next 12 hours. (Your Tooth Gem tech will provide you with an after care card.)

Are there any suggested food restrictions for wearing a gem?

No eating or drinking anything but water for the first 1-2 hours. Avoid sticky, hard foods and candies for the first 12 hours. After that time period you can follow you regular diet!

Durability

Tooth gems are not considered permanent and are only worn for temporary periods of time. Most patients wear their tooth jewelry for six months to as long as one year with proper care. You can get them safely removed by a dental professional. Durability can vary depending on your lifestyle.

Does the application procedure hurt?

Not at all! The procedure of applying tooth gems is safe and easy, no drilling is required. The process takes approximately 10-15 minutes. Our trained professional uses a dental grade etch and adhesive to bond the tooth gems to the tooth. An LED light is used to cure the adhesive to ensure a long lasting bond. The process is very similar to the technique for attaching traditional braces to teeth.

Can I get a tooth gem on my crown or veneer?

Tooth gems cannot be applied to any artificial tooth that surface such as crowns, caps, veneers or dentures.

What are Swarovski crystals?

Genuine Swarovski crystals are lead free and non toxic. They do NOT contain dangerous plastics or acrylics, and are safe for oral use. They are stain resistant with a flat back and foiled platinum surface.

Is the adhesive bonding agent safe for my teeth?

Yes, it's a dental grade adhesive that is used in the application of traditional braces.

Can I wear a tooth gem if I have a retainer?

Tooth gems are not recommended if you are currently using a clear plastic retainer (Invisalign, Smile Direct) as it will not fit properly over the charm. If you are using a wire type retainer, we encourage you to bring it to your appointment so that we can ensure the gem is placed where it won't interfere with it.

Does the tooth gem obstruct regular brushing?

Do not brush directly over the gem within the initial 24 hours of application. Do not use an electric tooth brush for at least 48 hours after. Brush regularly and always practice good dental hygiene. You will want to gently brush around the gem to avoid any build up.
